ECML Think tank "Language learning pathways"

The project’s network meeting on the “Language learning pathways” was held on the 18nd and 19rd of January 2018 at the ECML (European Centre for Modern Languages of the
Council of Europe)  headquarters in Graz.

During the workshop the following aspects were discussed: autonomous learning through self-reflection and self-evaluation; recognition of prior learning; valorisation, reuse and
expansion of the learners’ existing linguistic repertoires as part of the language learning process; the role of formative assessment; the role of intercultural learning in education
for democracy and citizenship; continuity of learning in terms of learning content, learning methods, learning pace and language learning awareness at different stages of the
educational process; the availability and diversity of language learning experiences in schools as well outside educational frameworks; valuing languages and language learning.

The meeting resulted in a list of recommendations on how the ECML could support its member states in developing language learning pathways. The ECML Secretariat will now
review these recommendations with a view to formulating a concrete proposal which will be presented at the meeting of the Bureau of the Governing Board in March 2018.

Riga Secondary School 34 Deputy Head Ms.D.Karhu actively participated in the plenary sessions and workgroups.
