Autumn Festival

Autumn Festival

Traditional Chinese festival was held in Riga Secondary School 34 Confucius Classroom on October 4th, the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Chinese volunteer teacher Ms.Wu Wei started the classes by writing on the blackboard five Chinese characters, which mean "Happy Mid-Autumn Festival”, celebrating from the introduction of the Mid-Autumn Festival. She explained it in Pinyin, English, Russian and Latvian. Then Ms.Wu Wei taught students to read aloud "Happy Mid-Autumn Festival" in Chinese and spoke about the origin of Mid-Autumn Festival. After that, everyone was listening to wonderful Chinese music, while eating the moon cakes and taking pictures. At the end of the event, Ms. Wu Wei and students were discussing the origin of traditional festivals in Latvia and in China. The students were constantly praising the moon cake taste and asked the teacher to share the recipe of making moon cakes. This is how teachers and students in Riga Secondary School 34 Confucius Classroom spent a pleasant and impressive Mid-Autumn Festival together.

Delegation from China

Delegation from Shanghai , consisting of Xiangming Junior High School Principal, PE teacher, school basketball team, as well as, Huangpu District Education Bureau Division Chief, Shanghai’s People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign countries Council member and some businessmen, visited Riga Secondary School 34 on September 13, 2017. Discussion about education was held. It was interesting to know what traditions are like in both schools. In addition, basketball tournament “Friendly Cup” was organised in our school gym. All participants were pleased with the possibility to communicate, compete and cooperate. We hope for the future development of friendly relationship to launch mutual projects in the future.

Project "Erasmus+"

PIE – Pathways In Europe is an Erasmus+ international educational project which had its final mobility in 2016. /2017. The project’s aim was to aid students to make their career choices, to research job market, to develop management and marketing skills. Students and teachers from seven European states (UK – Northern Ireland, Germany, France, Poland, Denmark, Spain, and Latvia) held their regular meetings in different countries in order to implement the projects aims and ideas. This year the students travelled to St Patrick’s College, Maghera, Northern Ireland. They worked on their IT skills development, participated in real-life business game, where they had to write a business plan, create a product, present it to a jury of experts to win investments. There were 9 participants in the Riga Secondary School 34 team this year, forms 11 and 12. The project’s activities attracted more than 60 students of different age groups all in all. Not only did the project help our students to make their career choices, but also it introduced them to the multicultural and multilingual European Youth community.
