Three teachers of our school Ruta Bancāne (Biology), Jekaterina Mazure (English), and Aleksandr Sorokin (Physics) visited the city of Mersin, Turkey in November 5–9, 2018.
Mersin, located in Southern Turkey, is home to our Erasmus+ KA2 partner, Zeytinlibahce Mesleki ve Teknik Anadolu Lisesi (Vocational and Technical Secondary School of Anatolia). The meeting was also attended by our partners from Colegiul National Gheorghe Sincai (Gheorghe Şincai Classical Gymnasium ), Bucharest, Romania and from Английска езикова гимназия «Гео Милев» (Geo Milev Language Gymnasium), Burgas, Bulgaria.
The purpose of the visit was to open the Erasmus+ project Green City Life: Starting Green City Life and implement the Project training activities for the teachers involved. The Project aims at researching the ways of preserving biodiversity in the urban area and creating a set of practical recommendations for the city residents on how to attract and sustain life in the city area.
Our working session in Mersin comprised numerous meetings with Natural Sciences professors from the University of Mersin, marine biologists and horticultural research institute specialists, as well as the City Council Environment and Social Development officers, who kindly supported Green City Life with their insight on the biodiversity of Mersin and the area, provided invaluable advice on the Project research aspects and helped the teachers to understand the terminology and the object of the research.
Riga Secondary School 34 is the Coordinator of the Project. We are grateful for having enthusiastic, experienced, and efficient partners.
